    (1)
    Porto, Portugal

    Tour Description

Discover the breathtaking landscapes, rich history, and world-renowned wines of the Douro Valley on this two-day guided tour starting from Porto.

Your journey begins with a scenic drive to the charming town of Amarante, known for its Romanesque bridge and the Church of São Gonçalo. Stroll through its historic center and soak in the atmosphere of this picturesque riverside gem.

Next, enjoy a stunning panoramic view at a viewpoint in Mesão Frio, where the Douro River carves its way through terraced vineyards — a perfect photo stop.

Continue to the heart of the valley, Peso da Régua, where you’ll enjoy a traditional Portuguese lunch and sample local flavors surrounded by vineyard-covered hills.

After lunch, head to Lamego, a city rich in culture and heritage. Spend time exploring the Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora dos Remédios, a majestic baroque church perched atop an impressive staircase offering panoramic views.

The tour culminates with a guided visit and wine tasting at Quinta da Pacheca, one of the oldest and most prestigious wine estates in the region. Learn about the wine-making process and taste some of the Douro’s finest wines.

After this immersive experience at Quinta da Pacheca, we continue our journey with a visit to the Miradouro de São Leonardo de Galafura, one of the most breathtaking viewpoints in the entire Douro region. From here, you’ll enjoy sweeping views of the river valley — an ideal place to appreciate the natural grandeur of the Douro and take unforgettable photographs.

As the afternoon fades, we return to Peso da Régua, where we’ll spend the night in a comfortable hotel located in the city. Relax and enjoy the serene Douro evening atmosphere.

    Day 2:

After breakfast, at around 9:00, we set off along the famous EN222, considered one of the most scenic roads in the world. Our first stop is the Miradouro do Cacho, near Valença do Douro, where you can take in the majestic views and capture some memorable photos.

We then continue to the town of Pinhão, where we’ll embark on a two-hour mini-cruise along one of the most beautiful and wild stretches of the Douro River. Relax and enjoy the ride through the terraced vineyards and dramatic landscapes.

After lunch in Pinhão, we’ll head to the breathtaking Miradouro Coração do Douro, where you’ll be treated to sweeping views over the river and the charming village of Pinhão — a true postcard moment in the heart of the valley.

Our journey then continues to São João da Pesqueira, one of the oldest towns in the region. Here, we’ll explore the historical center, known for its traditional architecture and peaceful atmosphere.

We’ll make a stop at the dramatic Miradouro de São Salvador do Mundo, another unforgettable viewpoint offering panoramic vistas over the Douro carved through dramatic cliffs and ancient terraces.

From there, we descend to the tranquil spot of Ferradosa, where we’ll pause briefly to enjoy the serenity and natural beauty of this hidden riverside gem.

Our route continues to the quaint schist village of São Xisto, nestled on the slopes of the valley, where time seems to stand still.

We then climb to the scenic Miradouro Alto das Vargelas, widely considered one of the most beautiful viewpoints in the Douro — an ideal place to take in the valley's grandeur one last time before heading inland.

Next, we’ll visit the mysterious ruins of the Castle of Numão, an ancient hilltop fortress steeped in history and surrounded by rugged beauty.

Our final stop of the day is Vila Nova de Foz Côa, a town famous for its prehistoric rock art sites and unique cultural heritage, where we will end the day and stay overnight at a charming local hotel.

    Day 3:

We begin the final day of our journey with a visit to the fascinating Côa Museum, dedicated to the region’s prehistoric rock art and natural heritage. For those who wish, there’s the option to explore the nearby Passadiços do Côa, a scenic wooden walkway that runs along the cliffs, offering spectacular views over the mouth of the Côa River — a tributary of the Douro.

From there, we head to Pocinho, where you’ll board a short train ride to Pinhão. This is one of the most scenic stretches of railway in Portugal, running along the wildest and most untouched part of the Douro Valley. Sit back and enjoy the unforgettable views as the train winds through terraced vineyards and steep riverbanks.

Your guide will meet you upon arrival in Pinhão. We’ll take a moment to admire the famous tile-covered train station, then set off to the panoramic Miradouro de Casal de Loivos, where we’ll stop briefly to enjoy one of the best views over the Douro River.

Next, we continue to the peaceful Miradouro do Castedo before heading inland to the charming town of Alijó, where we’ll stop for a delicious traditional lunch.

In the afternoon, we visit the village of Favaios, renowned for its sweet fortified wine, Moscatel. Here, you’ll enjoy a guided tour and tasting session at a local winery, discovering the unique characteristics of this regional specialty.

Our final stop is a visit to the iconic Casa de Mateus, the estate that produces the world-famous Mateus Rosé wine. This 90-minute guided experience includes wine tasting and a tour of the estate’s magnificent baroque gardens and historic interiors.

At the end of the day, we return comfortably to Porto, bringing our two-day Douro adventure to a memorable close.

This 3 day tour was absolutely exceptional from start to finish. Every detail was perfectly planned — from the comfortable hotel pickups to the breathtaking viewpoints and authentic local experiences.

We especially loved the visit to Amarante and the river cruise in Pinhão — so peaceful and scenic. The wine tastings at Quinta da Pacheca and Adega de Favaios were top-notch, and our guide was knowledgeable, friendly, and truly passionate about the region.

The itinerary was well-paced, with just the right balance between sightseeing, cultural stops, and relaxation. The views at São Leonardo da Galafura and Casal de Loivos were unforgettable!

Highly recommended for anyone who wants to deeply explore the beauty, heritage, and flavors of the Douro Valley. We’ll treasure these memories forever!
